Hi, I'm Wendy
It started with Oliver.
I lost him in January of 2022, which was also the time I realized that in spite of the hundreds of photos I had taken of him over 18 years and a long hobby-driven background in photography, none of them felt worthy of becoming a keepsake. And I did not think to create a single beautiful image of the two of us. That realization ultimately led me to retire from a long career in pharmaceutical sales and devote myself full-time to creating beautiful portraits for pet lovers. I think Oliver would be happy knowing he played a role in me finding this next wonderful chapter of my life.
So why all studio work?
I had spent years studying natural light and originally envisioned an outdoor photography business. But one day, a Pinterest deep dive had me stumble on Emma O'Brien, a South Africa based dog photographer who did virtual coaching. Emma showed me a kind of portraiture I hadn't realized I wanted to create. I knew this was what I wanted to do.
I found more inspiration through online workshops, including the amazing work of Vincent LaGrange. His 10 year book project called "DOGS The Human Animals" hooked me even more. His approach -creating painting-like portraits, softly lit with dark backdrops and upright poses- is what I now strive to create in my own images. I spend time with each dog, working to bring forward the essence of their unique personality. It's a practice of patience, reading them and focusing on the eyes. Cat lovers, I have you covered too. After all my inspiration was a beautiful feline who I still miss to this day.
Pets are a part of us, they are family. To have the opportunity to capture how individual and cherished they are for the people who love them is the best job I could ever imagine. There is nothing quite like watching someone see their pet’s portraits for the first time. Sometimes they light up, sometimes they laugh, and sometimes they get emotional. Those moments are why this work feels so meaningful to me.
